OK so my 4 Discus have been doing amazing lately i have 2 x Red Pidgeon Bloods and 2 x Blue Diamonds. I have noticed Some peppering on the Pidgeons but decided it was nothing too serious as i have Crushed Granite for a substrate and a black backing on the Tank and according to reading the Peppering is to some extent simply a reflection of the darker colours in the tank. Today however i notices a bit of Fin Damage on the Tail fin of one of the Pidgeons.. i spent a good 45-50 min just watching the tank to see if i could figure out what was going on, low and behold the other Pidgeon is acting quite agressive towards the one with the tail damage.. i also noticed that there seems to be some fading in the red lines (not sure how to describe them different) around the damaged tail, now i cant honestly say the red is dissapearing just that i noticed the lack of red there, where there is red on the other one. I also noticed some aggression between the Blue Diamonds, as well as very limited aggression between the two different sets... I have spent hours and hours watching these fish over the last 2 months since i got them and have never noticed this before... I fed them thinking maybe they were hungry but that has not seemed to help at all... now that the lights are off they have all settled down a little.

Water tests show everything is good in the tank, and Temp is good, if anything it may have gotten a little warmer today what with the sun finally comming out. So not sure whats going on here, is this agression normal?? what kinds of things can i do to stop it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry about the Double post.. those who saw it.. also does anyone know why i dont have the attatch image option stuff when i post in this area? Just trying to get a pic of the discus up for people to see.

ye, this type of aggression is normal.i think your discus fishes are going to be dominate the tank. the aggression is due to that which discus will dominate the tank.but don;t worry about that. i have my personal experience with my discus...

Thanks, I wondered if it was just a Hierarchy thing.. that being the case should it taper off after a while? Once the Pecking order has been established, or is it just a fact of life when keeping Discus?

I have been keeping discus for the last few months and have seen little spats of agression/chasing here and there, it has always happened and its soemthing i have come to live with, i assume its just the discus reminding the others whos the boss so to speak, i see fin damage and such all the time so i wouldnt worry about it.

Gl with them
