Discolored Sand

Ive noticed that lately the sand in my tank seems to be going gray, its only happening to the sand under the top layer. The only thing i can think is its the dissolvable algae tablets i use for the cat fish/plecos. any idea if its gonna become a problem or will turning the sand over from time to time stop it getting too gray. i have noticed the stuff under the top layer does smell sometimes too, the sands only about 6 months old

No problem, its just organic compounds breaking down under the surface layers it'll eventually turn black, alot of people will cry and say its bad for the fish but its not. Just stir it up and it'll go back to normal.

Yeah happens quite a bit with sand, stir it up a little by running your fingers though it on a weekly water change
