I was cleaning the tank and the hooks holding my MH pendant just came off the wall and the light fell into the tank :-(
I guess thats what you get when women use powertools... I think I'll let my hubby do the drilling and screwing next time...
Do you think the light still works? It is wet right now so I'll have to let it dry first

Paula

I think you will have to be very lucky for the lights to work but then I aint a sparky so you never know

May be an idea to open the housing up & allow to dry completely & test them tomorrow

Fingers crossed :good:

do you have a de-humidifier??

if you do shut the MH in a cupboard with that for 24hours and hope for the best!!

good luck!!

This may sound crazy, but if I were you I'd first dip it in RO water for a couple secs to wash the salt off. Then put the halide in your oven at 200F or whaterver your lowest setting is for oh say 6-12 hours. Then, when you're ready to start it back up, have a fire extinguisher ready ;)

Top that off with a bit of basil & some roast potatoes & we'll be round for dinner :good:

Actually water usually does less damage than you'd think. I don't know how many times my cell phone has been under water and survived.

First - was it just a pendant? What exactly went into the water?

Next what type of ballast do you have on the light, electronic or magnetic?

And last what exactly happened? Bulb explode? breaker trip? go through it in extreme detail.

Amen to that Crazy. my cell phone has sat in a snowbank for 12 hours and it still works :D

I do landscaping, I once fell in a pool with my cell on my side. After I climbed out and got it dried out it still worked! However my watch wasn't as fortunate.

I have a feeling the ballast may be damaged, but its hard saying without a lot of the details.

I wanna add to the crazy thoughts...

1)Put the light into the dryer and put it on tumble dry  .
2)Blow on it until it dries. :good:

Great news: the light still works! :hyper: well sort of... after the light was on for about an hour my ground fault interrupter shut the whole house down. I'll let my hubby take the thing appart tonight and clean the inside.

The light is a complete unit, its an Aqua Medic StarLight. I have no idea what kind of balast it has. It was about half way in the water, not sure, I didn't really check that well I just made sure to get it out ASAP

I'm just glad the tank didn't break!

That is good news. The ground fault trip is probabbly due to some residual moisture in the unit. Could also be from salt creep left after the water dries away. This is going to sound funny but the best way to clean it is a dishwasher if it is small enough to fit in. I know a computer guy that cleans all his keyboards this way and it really works. If it won't fit or you don't have one, I'd take the unit apart and wipe everything down with a damp clean cloth.

Anyway it sounds like it shorted out before anything important so I think it is salvageable.
