Lately, I've been having a problem. For some reason, I've noticed that all the anacharis in my tank has been reduced down to a little one inch stalk. My fish are platies and zebra danios and don't eat plants, but I have a suspicion that the tiny hitchhiker snails are eating them. However, they're really small and I cant tell what they are, and I can't believe that they could eat so many plants (unless there's a whole colony). My only other (live) plant in there is a thicker leaved plant that is fairly small and looks kind of like a crypt, I think. That one has survived.

So what do you think? If it is the snails, how would I root them out? Thanks!

remove all fish and put a school of dwarf puffers in there haha

sorry, i have no clue what your problem might be. Are you certian the plant is not just dying off?

Do you dose Flourish excel? this will reduce ancharis down to zero, it will melt it all away and kill the plant.

Platys and Danios will not eat plants and ive yet to see snails eating plants either so i doubt if its that, bit of a mystery allright, what sort of light do you have on the tank?

No, I don't use Flourish. And I considered the lighting and all, and I know it's pretty weak (new bulb coming soon), but I know that there are far more missing plants than accumulated plant debris, and it does grow somewhat under my weak 13 watt light, albeit kind of spindly. Perhaps if I had a way to increase the light, the anacharis could outgrow it's disappearance rate, but the manual on my Eclipse 12 warned against using other bulbs with the full hood. Any other ideas? And thanks for the replies.

Any brothers or sisters? or even the missus, plenty of theives out and about you know! Go and inspect the house, could be a new vase in the front room with some in.

Neal :good:
