Hi all, I have a question about why and how my zebra danios have been disappearing. I had 3 zebra danios and a betta in a 3 gallon tank and I felt that they needed more friends so I bought two more danios, then one by one they started disappearing over night. I have no trace of the bodies and the surviving don't look like they had bigger bellies. Now only two danios and the betta remain.

I also have three more in a 6.6 gallon with other community fish, and they get along just great.

Thanks for all advice in advance.

+1 but also danios are fish that are zippy and active and should really be kept in a 4 foot long tank but a 2.5-3 foot tank would be loads better than yours. Danios need so much room since they're sooo active and fast.
Also is your 6.6 gallon a fluval chi? (in your other thread you said it was the 5 gallon chi) Even if it's not what do you have in there other than the danios that are "other community fish"?

Yes I know the tank is small. But they were babies, very small. The other danios in my 6.6 gallon are full grown. The 6.6 gallon tank is a tank from petco called the bookshelf tank, it's 24" wide. I will be moving the danios from the 6.6 and the last surviving danio from the 3 gallon into a 10 gallon soon once I move into the new house (in about 4-5 weeks.)

The Fluval chi 5 houses another Betta with a few neon tetras. The 6.6 houses the 3 danios, 3 guppies, and a baby angel fish. They will also be moving into the 10 gallon soon.

But I highly doubt that the Betta has been eating the danios in the 3 gallon, because he never chases them or seems the slightest bit interested in them, but the last surviving danio was the only danio that seemed a bit off. For example, he would chase all of the other danios away from him...weird.

Well, thank you for all of your guys' input, it is much appreciated.

This happened to me. I assumed they'd been eaten until we moved the tank and found them, they had escaped from a tiny hole in the lid and gone down the back of the cabinet :( RIP fishies.

Edit 3 gallon is very very small. Danios are very fast, need about 3ft min.

Hi.. the main thing i would be looking at here is the well-being of your 'baby' Angel fish. The rest of your fish will do o.k in your new home (until you catch 'Multi Tank Syndrome' ) but those fish can, and do, grow rather big and rather rapidly in the right waters.
A weird one here, but have you searched around the outside of the tank for your missing Danio's? They are a very active fish and if there is the smallest of gaps and the luckiest of chances, they can jump clear of the surface very easily. Do you have a cat?

Terry.

Yes for the danios and "baby" angel you'll need a tank at least 3 feet long (for the danios) and at least 18 inches high (for the angel) so he can grow as talk as he should.

Well Terry I think I already have Multi Tank Syndrome, lol. But the angelfish is not really a baby but just rather small, idk how young it is, but it eats good and is definatly growing fast. But I do have another place for him to go when he gets bigger, My grandmother has a 100 gallon with 3 other big angelfish. So, no worries there.

Yes I do have a lid with the tank and there is an opening where the filter goes and I have checked arounf the tank for bodies but I have a feeling when we move then I 'll get a chance to check behind the desk that they are on, and I might find some evidence there. Also, no cats, I only have 4 spoiled Chihuahuas, lol

I'd recommened placing that angel fish in your grandmas tank now, rather than later. Keeping the angle in sich a small space might limit it's growth, and it's not even suitable for a young/small angel anyway.
