hi :D

i have been on this forum called Fish Tank TV ( check it out )
and a lot of people there have tanks with dirt in them? What they do is fill organic ( dirt that has no firtilisers and they buy it just a normal shop) dirt at the bottom of the tank. About an inch... Then they put around another inch of gravel on top...

They fill it up and plants in those tanks grow like crazy..... they look really well too.

Do any of you guys have done that to your tanks before?

Just had a look, well if it works I dont see why not, I may give it a try in a tank and see how I get on, journal coming soon.

just that i never heard of it before :D very interesting might give it a shot myself

i'm not sure but in some of the vids that i sow they would put plants and fish in the next few days??

Plants yeah but a bit soon for fish. Its fine so long as you fill it without spreading the substrate.

it looks like a lot of work... i sow that if you don't have a lot of plants there is going to be loads and loads of algea growing in the tank

I was thinking of doing this, But im pretty sure that it will open you up too all sorts of problems in the tank. May have too try it though.

currently run a tank that way. It has a journal going in the journal section. Yeah all substrate; dirt, clay and sand is from the woods by my house. Was a lot of effort to setup the substrate. But it worked fine. I had plants, shrimp, and snails in mine on day 1 and 3 or 4 fish on day four. Never had a problem. Mine is unfiltered as well. Currently the 15 gallon contains over a dozen fish and counting. No water problems, no algae.
