Hi Guys

Could someone be kind enough to analyze this fertilizer in comparison to Sechem Flourish Comprehensive?

http://www.aquagreen.com.au/plant_data/Dinosaur_Pee.html

I just lack the knowledge, I was considering dry dosing using the EI but I just cannot wrap my head around it.

Basically I have a low tech tank, 48 Watts T5 HO over 37 Gallons with Java Fern, Anubias, Crypts etc (Hardy Plants), flourite Substrate.

I am only dosing Sechem Flourish Comprehensive and Excel at the moment, people swear by this "Dinosaur Pee"

Basically I just want to know what I need to add to my tank to supplement every need of the plants.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s Cannot get TPN+ in australia :(

Cool product name...

Glancing at the product, I can say... The first difference I notice is that TPN+ contains Phosphorus and Dinosaur Pee doesn't, however Dinosaur Pee has such a better brand name.

I dose Flourish and Excel or at least I did, now I dose Flourish, TPN+ and Excel along with injected Co2

Flourish supp = Micro nutrients
Excel = Carbon source
TPN+/Dino Pee = Macro nutrients

All I can say is it wouldn't hurt to give it a go, I imagine you could get TPN+ if you really wanted by mail order but that's going to cost a bomb, make with what you can do and mostly the plants will adapt to the conditions you give them.

P.S AFAIK TPN+ and Dino pee will contains the Micro nutrients as well, however as I have 500ml of Flourish I dose that as well to make use of it. I only use TPN+ on 2/3 of my tanks as they are very lightly stocked and won't be getting much from fish waste.

The addition of Excel means your tank is no longer low tech. Carbon addition requires you to dose more nutrients and carry out large water changes a week to reduce organic waste. That's more high tech.
If you stopped the Excel dosing and added floating plants to the tank, then you might not need to dose anything. Maybe just trace every week or less.

Good EI article. It really isnt all that difficult.

Here's a problem I have at the moment with my Nano 8L shrimp tank...

I have swapped from Easycarbo to Excel since it was cheaper and more of it. However as calculations put it I can only dose 0.32ml and I am finding it almost impossible to measure, I use a test vial and only put a drip or so in and it is pretty hard. 1ml for every 50litres to a max of 2ml for every 50l.

I also couldn't figure out the maths for working out a ratio to water to make it so I can dose a more measurable amount of water mixed with Ecarbo without making a huge batch and diluting it massive. Further more if I mix it with water does it then begin to decay or? I have 5 litres of deionised water sitting around which could be used to make a good measurable amount of solution.

I dose my Nano with EasyCarbo and TPN+, medium light and TMC Aqua soil. Since I started dosing Ecarbo I have noticed a boost in growth but really worried about over dosing on such a small tank. Keeping in mind that 8L means the entire tank filled and well most of it is taken up by a filter/heater/sponge and a good 10% of soil.

Any ideas? Radar?

As standard we usually say 1ml per 20litres is fine. Shrimps will still breed with this which shows they are happy. I know this is more that what the bottle says but lots of us have found this to be ok. Manufacturers to have to cover their backs though and avoid risks, which is fair enough.
Josh, simply put, just get smaller measuring equipment. Put "10 x 1ML DISPOSABLE SYRINGE (STERILE)" into ebay (it's against forum rules to post links to ebay). This should make things easier.

Further more if I mix it with water does it then begin to decay or?

Yes, it would begin to decay (half life is 24hours I think).

It sounds like some kind of energy drink!

Sorry for being off topic, I just couldn't resist.

I would drink it if it was a energy drink the name is pretty unique :D

I think that I will dose the Dinosaur Pee, Comprehensive Flourish and either Dinosaur Spit (Carbon Supplement) or Sechem Excel

Ill see how it goes

Thanks for the clarification

Eventually down the line I will get pressurized CO2 and do the whole EI pretty pumped to do it

I use dino spit and dino dung. Will be getting some dino pee *L*

The range is brilliant, and very well priced

Ah, I guess they are saying 1ml for 25litres is alright so not that much of an "overdose".

Put "10 x 1ML DISPOSABLE SYRINGE (STERILE)" into ebay

Thanks for the heads up, bought a nice supply of them.

Yes, it would begin to decay (half life is 24hours I think).

I thought glutaraldehyde would be a little more stable than that though I just found out why the edge of my bottle has gone all yellow, because of "Tris".

Lol hopefully I wont need any Dino Dung, the names are actually hilarious.

It works out so much cheaper than the Seachem counterparts

Have you ever ordered any livestock from aquagreen Alasse? Im interested in NT Algae shrimp but I doubt they would survive the trip from NT to VIC

I havent as yet, though i am interested in some snails, shrimp & plants they have available. I'm waiting til i need a larger order and will order all at once :)
