To work out the volume of water in the tank
measure Length x Width x Height in cm
divide by 1000
equals volume in litres

there are 3.785 litres in a US gallon and 4.5 litres in a British or UK gallon.

If the dimensions are in inches, then it's... 36x16x16 = 9216 inches ^3

Divide the cubic inches by 231. So in this case, it's about 40 gallons.
