Okay I bought 6 fish.. They have been kept togther for 2 months. Previous owner is a friend. Unusual mix all fishkeepers tell me. 1 male blue betta and 5 silver tipped tetras. 1 of the tetras shaols with the betta and they feed togther
where the other silver tipped tetras shoal togther

not once in 2 months have the betta and tetras hurt eachother at all

what should i do?

split them up now
or wait until i see conflict then remove it?

awww im soo confused...

Fish have individual personalities. Some bettas like big tanks...some of them like small ones. Some bettas are very active, while others are not, and some get along with other fish...and some of them don't.

It is in all honesty hard to say. Sometimes fish get along fine their whole lives, while other times the fish get along great for a while until they snap and go on killing sprees. The choice you have to make for yourself is...are you comfortable with the idea that one day some of the fish might start going after each other?

Im comfortable to the extent where, all of my family are ok with fish. At all times somebody is in. They are on constant display so any signs of conflict and they will be seperated :D

Keep an eye on them. Have a tank ready for the betta. We'd all prefer to be safe rather than sorry, but if the betta is behaving and you can separate them if needed, it's fine.

Am I right in saying that either you think, or someone on here has told you, that your male Betta is about to attack your shoal of silver tip tetra,
I can honestly say that I have never seen this in all my 35+ in fishkeeping.
The only issue I would have here regarding Bettas is that they do come from shallow bodies of water, and I believe they should be treated with that aspect in mind,
(no the goldfish bowl) but a shallow aquarium. They need from time to time to surface and in deep tanks they do not seem to live for very long.
