Do glass diffusers have a lifespan after which they become ineffective? I've had mine for around 6 months and the bubbles are certainly not as small as they used to be. It also takes longer for the plants to start pearling. I've given the diffuser a little bleach bath to see if this help it.

I wont think they have a lifespan. If the bubbles are getting bigger, its probably the ceramic disk getting clogged up, most likely with algae. Try leaving it in a fairly strong bleach solution for a few hours. That always seems to help mine produce the 'fine mist' required.

I had a Spio V diffuser that lasted three minutes. :grr:

I now have two diffusers, one as a spare because I would be stuffed if I broke my only one. I change them round every week during a water change and leave the out of service one soaking in a weak bleach solution. Performance does diminish over time without cleaning them. There`s no reason why they shouldn`t last for years if looked after properly.

Dave.

All being well, don't forget to soak it for a bit in some tap water with some dechlorinator added to remove the bleach ;)
