Different Water Types

Why does everyone preach about water parameters {ph, nitrate etc) when some members keep fish from different types of water together and nobody says anything? For example: people who keep plecos with Lake Malawi cichlids, threy require totally different types of water yet nobody seems bothered by this?

Because exposure to ammonia, nitrites and nitrates (in high levels) are toxic to fish

Because things like pH, KH, GH are completely different to ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. Most fish can easily adapt to any tap water, but a tiny amount of ammonia, nitrite, and high levels of nitrate are lethal.

Also, fish that are tank bred so are used to different water.
