Im looking for another tank for my Betta. I was looking at couple today and one had like a 3 stage filter, it went through the sponge, through a carbon bit then through a bit with pellet like things in it.

I was wondering if there is much advantage of having a filter like this other than one with just a sponge?

Appologies if this is a poor description but hopefully you know what i mean!?

Thanks alot

For bettas, the filter isn't nearly as important as in a normal tank. That's not to say that they don't need filtration but more a matter of that a single betta will produce only a minimal amount of waste so you don't need a filter that is top of the line. And you usually don't have the problem of overfeeding and having excess food breaking down and producing ammonia as most people feed them the betta bites which are eaten immediately. I have a couple 2.5 gallon minibows that I've used for bettas and the Whisper 10 filters that came with them work fine. So IMO, any filter, even a simple box filter, will work fine for a betta tank.

Ok then.

So a fancy filter isnt essential but would be an advantage in my normal tank? it just has a box filter
