I had 2 pristella tetras I bought at a pet shop. I had them in my 10g tank until it leaked (my old one) and put them in my 20. Then a few weeks later I got 4 more at petco and put them in the 10g tank (new one) with the intention of moving the 2 back into it. My plans changed and tonight I put the 4 that were in the 10g into the 20 with the other 2. I noticed that there's a huge difference between them. The first two are more of a yellowish tone and the other 4 are more of a silverish. I'll try to take pics tomorrow. I knew they seemed different but thought it was the different lighting between the two tanks (two different rooms, etc). Any thoughts? It doesn't appear to matter to them-all six started schooling right away.

I have 3 pristellas (getting 3 more today or tomorrow). They are more of a silver/white color with an almost transparent body. They have a yellow and black stripe on their fins and a orangish red tail. It sounds as if the first 2 with the yellowish tone may be lemons(???). I think the pristellas are the prettiest fish I have.

I've heard the yellow-ish pristellas called "Gold pristellas". I have one and it hangs out with the others - like you said, they don't seem to mind the difference (just a color morph of the same species). The golds seem to be a little more transparent than the silverish pristellas.

ok here's the proof:

I just was a little surprised I guess. I like them all although I have to admit I'm fonder of the original two (the gold looking ones) probably because I've had them longer. Just noticed that the gold ones are bigger too.

noelberg is correct. There is a "gold" variant that is the same species. gale, I think they look great together B)
