How do you know the difference between Honduran Red Points and Convicts? I bought a pair of cichlids labeled Convicts, but their bodies are not white, as described, but more grayish. Also they are spawning and are not aggressive at all, and are actually being bullied sometimes.

HRPs are generally more "blue" than convicts in general but there is the issue that "blue convicts" are out there which are Convict x HRP cross fish...

I think both convicts and HRP can have a variation of white to blue to grey background on their bodies, post a pic of your fish

My HRP are pictured below, but sometimes I wonder if the female is a cross...see the male on the left. It has red fins...

Pictures would be needed to definitively say what fish you have.

Well here are some pics, sorry about the photo quality, but they are camera shy

This is the male "convict" he has blue fins when colors up during the night time

I agree, definitely cons, the grey hood on the face does it for me

That second pic looks like a female due to head shape (not so outwardly rounded if that makes sense) but it could be the head colours playing tricks...

Get your algae cleaner out!

i have a 10 inch pleco in there who only eats cucumbers and sleeps, doesnt really do his job. why are these fish so docile though?? they are constantly cleaning off their cave, and they have laid some eggs too. but they are not the least bit aggressive, they are being bullied by my female krib who is half their size.

They're new to the tank, give them time...but saying that every cichlid has it's own personality, maybe these fish are used to being in tanks with other species?

Also, stop feeding the plec cucumber and I bet in a few days it will start on your algae :) Fish can go without food for atleast a week!

i got attacked by people on this forum when i told them i dont feed him food, other than what the other fish didnt get to. these fish were housed in the same tank as turquoise severums, and parrot cichlids.

If you see him eating and pooing then you don't need to feed him more...I assume you saw him cleaning the glass before? If you've seen him on the glass and he has a slightly bulging belly then he'll be a okay.

I have a Bristlenose and I tend to feed cucumber once a week which the geos also munch on, and I drop algae wafers into the tank of an evening maybe twice a week at most and others also pick at those...and my BN is nice and healthy, I'd say if you do similar your plec he'll be fine!

To try and get him eating that algae hold back on wafers and cucumber etc for a week assuming that his belly is full right now, that way he'll go searching for food and find some...then re-establish other foods through the week too.

Hahaha so he was lazy because some misinformed people gave me the wrong info, i was kinda getting tired of scarping off the glass. i'll teach him a lesson though.
