Hey there, i have a 2 yr old brackish tank, with a variety of fish...and i currently have a nice maroon/burgundy algae growth that is all over the place...I dont clean it cause it looks really nice, and i have noticed small pods climbing around the algae...i will try to post some pics...but i would like to know what types of algea others are experiencing ? also i have heard that some brackish tanks have started growing some sort of natural corals... though i have never seen this first-hand.... it would be great to see pics of the different types of algaes out there ! Thanks all !

I have never heard this in all my years of interest in brackish aquaria.

...I've heard of brackish sponge (in the amazon, I think...), but I have yet to hear of one growing "naturally" (or out of the blue) in a tank... Dunno.gif
Contrary to most people's belief sponges are not exclusive to marine waters. There are marine, brackish and freshwater sponges.

As for the corals, in the late Jurassic period when reefs where comprised of mainly heterotrophic organisms (unlike our modern mainly autotrophic reefs) some coral reefs (not siliceous sponge reefs or microbolite reefs as one might assume) did in fact adapt to brackish waters. That is truly an amazing feat for such delicate organisms. But one thing we have to remember, those brackish corals adapted to brackish waters roughly 150 million years ago and have since become extinct. All of modern day's corals are marine and there is not a single coral species that will survive in less-than-marine-salinities. So I dont know who told you that some corals are brackish (or even grow in brackish aquaria out of the blue) but they need to get their facts in order.
