i am concerned about my plants. i bought them a week and half ago and they seem to be dieing on me. do i need to buy plant food for them or is it anything to do with lighting?

What plants do you have and how many?
What are the tank conditions?
Do you possibly have a pic of what they are doing?

with out any info its hard to say. size of tank what kind of lights how much lighting also helps.....

my 2 quick guesses is one you need more light two they were not aquatic plants.....

those are the two most common things i run across but really do need more info to really pin point it.

theres 4 plants in total. i got them from pets at home so i hope there aquatic plants.

tank (with light on)

i was told at the pets at home shop that i should have he light on for 4 to 6 hours in the evening but have read that the tank needs upto 12 hours of light a day so how long should the light be on for?

im a noob to tropical fish so any advice would be great.

yeah they're all aquatic and tropica too no doubt, youll find that they're probably just adapting rather than dying. id bet that your light isn't powerful enough, and pets at home are right for once, a 6 hour photoperiod is ideal at first say for 2-3 months this gives your plants chance to flourish and minimise chances of an algal outbreak

from what i can see by the condition of the plants (leaves going brown and breaking off and brown spots on the leaves) i think dieing rather than adapting. if the condition of the plants doednt get better then i havnt got a problem with replacing them but dont want this to keep replacing them every couple of weeks so is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening?

Elodeo, Sword and Vallis are all aquatic plants, so on that note you are fine. How long has the tank been running with fish in it. It could be there are no nutrients in the water feeding the plants thus they die. You could always buy ferts that would certainly help keeping the plants alive

I just noticed you have an airstone! get rid of that thing itll only make growing plants more difficult since it will drive of any co2 that's present, not a good idea plants need it to grow. if I where you id make a diy co2 and add it asap, at the same time order some ferts and review your lights, you'll probably find your in the low light bracket so look at this link http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_cat.php?category=1 for plant idea's. you may find that you'll have to up your lights but with the addition of co2 and ferts this will mean you can grow more or less anything, you may want to consider adding root tabs for the sword they do seem to like to gain nutrients from the substrate rather than the water column

ive had fish in the tank for nearly 2 weeks. i was planning on getting fertilizer soon wich should help matters. i thought that the bubble stone would have gave the watrer MORE co2 rather than take it away. how do i make a co2 kit?
