It just looks white/raw. Doesn't really look infected, just raw...almost like he ran into something and scraped his head...but it started off as like a red "blister". Then it turned into what it is now. And it's getting bigger...it's already bigger than yesterday when I took the pictures. I'm wondering if he's got a kind of fin rot? His fins are looking kinda ragged. I'm worried...the way it's going I don't think he's gonna make it

I live out in the country, no big fish stores around, just walmart. The walmart doesn't have a good selection of meds for fishies. All I could find was Wardley Essentials Ick Away (For the effective control of fungus & external Parasites).

Does anyone have any idea what this can be? I've had Mr. Fish almost a year, I'd really love to know if this can be fixed.

Thanks!

It almost looks like what one of my bettas had once, in that exact same location. It started as just red bumps, but then they burst open, in to white hard, puffy like spots. (It was not fungus) I was told that it was a benign tumour. I treated with a bacterial med at first, but then it got to bad for him to live, it was starting to cover his eye. So he passed on.
Thought I had a picture around here somewhere but I don't. Hope that's now what your fishy has but it looks like it, just not as big and puffy as my betta had it.

Wow, I hope that's not what he has...that would stink! The only difference is that the white spot is not puffy, nor does it look hard...it looks like raw meat really, and it's an indention in his head, like he scraped a piece off himself, which is not possible, as he was in a bowl with nothing in it.

I guess the only thing I can do is keep his water clean and salted and warm. I don't know what else to do.

Yep keep his water very clean! Hope he lives long! Also try posting or asking over in the Betta section. They might be able to help you out more! Because they all love bettas over there...haha! :fun:

Nasty bacterial infection.
Whats your location
Water stats would be good.

In Central Texas. Use city water, not well. Hard water. pH is between 7.8 and 8.4. Low Chlorine...I always let the water sit for 24 hours before adding it and use a dechlorinator. Otherwise, I can't tell you much cause I don't have a water testing kit...can't get into the city until tomorrow.

Would the malachite green work or should I be picking something else up when I get the test kit?

Thanks,
Dawn

Maracyn one and two or maracyn plus.
Good luck.
