Did my tank swap tonight, to a new Juwel Rio 180

I havent transferred the fish, they are still in the old tank, till I can move them

Ive put the Fluval 3 out of the old tank into the new one, to help with the bacteria move :)

Here are a couple of pics

don't wait too long before you transfer the fish,m otherwise your bacteria colony will die out and you will need to recycle

Thanks

Im hoping to transfer the fish tomorrow night, once the water is at the correct temp

I think i stressed them out enough tonight with taking half their water out and one of the filters

Once the fish are in, ill transfer my other smaller filter in to help with the bacteria

Cheers

Steve

you should leave the filter running on your tank then

24 hours is enough for most of the bacteria to die off

No no no Steve mate. Don't wait, the bacteria will die. Listen to yves9 and either get the old filter back where it came from or move the fish.

Personally I'd just whack every heater you have in the new aquarium (on their thermostats though, not max), and provided you're even nudging the correct temp, just acclimatise them in bags as you normally would.

In any event, I would advise against just chucking them over with a net, which is what it sounds like you may be planning- there are likely to be other differences in the chemistry of the water that will stress the fish.

Tank looks lovely BTW!

Thanks Jules

I did move my two guppies last night, as the temp had increased sufficiently for them

I spent about 5 hours putting the water in, and half of it was from my original tank, so already a reasonable temperature

I moved my two neons this morning, and the guppies seemed fine, ill probably move the angel fish tonight, and possibly the silver shark

need some bigger bags for the plecs tho

Ill try and get some pics with the fish in once they have settled

No worries.

It sounds like you're running a half full small tank with seriously reduced filtration, and the majority of your fish. You need to sort that out quickly, no messing about.

Whatever you do, keep the filters and the fish together, or the bacteria will die and you'll send the tank into a cycle where toxins build up and cause causalties. You might be OK here if you get on it straight away, since you used so much old tank water in the new tank (which probably contained some fish crap/bacteria food).

Either get all the fish and filters over first chance you get, top up the original tank and get the big filter back in to filter them & feed the bacteria, or split the fish keeping the biggest filter in with the biggest sounce of waste.

For the sake of achieving the first of those solutions I'd disregard best practice and chuck the plecs over, bagging everything else. Don't know what anyone else thinks?

If you can be arsed, you could top the old tank up with water from the new tank, tranfer it back, do that again, and that will kind of do the acclimatisation for you.

Incidentally, neons and angels have a relationship in the wild. A kind of hunter/prey relationship!

Pps. I still can't get over how good that tank looks. Nice job.

Tank looks very nice, like your plants and how you have arranged them. I am interested to know how you are going to catch your plecos as I will need to do this soon. I would like to know the best way so as not to stress it. Hope your fish like their new home. :)

Hi *Sonic* :)

Your tank is looking great!

I'm sure your fish will enjoy their new home. What do you plan to do with your old tank?

Thanks, thats quite a good idea on transferring some of the water from the new tank to the old tank, to help acclimatise them, I still have a Fluval 2, and undergravel filter running on the old tank, if anything I had too much filtration on the old one, plus the two tanks are next to each other, so its very easy to do that

Once I have the rest of the fish in the new tank, im putting the fluval 2 in as well, as that does have a nice amount of bacteria in it :)

Interestingly the Angels seems to just go for each other :) and leave everyone else alone, however my Silver shark is getting a bit bigger now, and a neon disappeared last week !!!

Catching the fish wont be an issue, as all the plants etc are removed, so there is only the heater, and undergravel uplift tube, and the fluval 2, so nowhere to hide for them really

The Golden Nugget is going to be the hardest tho, cos he is so damn fast

and the Polka Dot Botias in my other tank, but im going to leave them in there for a while, until the new tank settles down

Im really pleased with how the tank looks, and im impressed with the backing and how cheap it was (its the genuine Juwel backing, that I didnt even know they did :)

Just need some light reflectors, not sure if anyone else has this, but Juwel tanks dont use condensation trays, and the tubes were soaking this morning, but i guess that is down to the air curtain I have (but its only on a low setting too)

The new tank looks great! Can't wait to see pics of the fish in their new home.

Just a suggestion for the golden nugget. Do you have 2 nets? Use both! One to steer him where you want him to go & the other to catch him.

oops how not to syphon water back from the new tank to the old tank

Make sure no guppies are in the way :)

One of them has ended up in the syphon tube and is now back in the old tank
