I had a Nomaphila stricta in my tank that my cichlids shredded. Just before losing 70% of its leaves, i took it out and gave it to my auntie for her tank. She has Plecs and tinfoil barbs.

The plant had been in a day and one of the Plecs died (common plec about 5 inch) all other fish are absolutely fine

Coincidence or my fault?

My tank is fully cycled with no disease/ pests as far as I’m aware

coincidence.

I have had the plant in my tanks and the fish eat it without any issues.

If a disease was in your tank and got into her tank, it would need more than 24 hours to build up and spread to fish and kill them.

Get her to check her tank conditioners (pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate).

Find out how often she does water changes and gravel cleans.

Get her to do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week. This will reduce any disease organisms in the water, assuming there is any.
