Did anybody on the forum ever think of how Bettas used to live with eachother in the rice paddies? How come the whole population isnt decreasing? When they breed did the female just used to go away. When the people used to collect the rice from the rice paddies didnt they disturb the bubblenest and even sometimes step on the baby fry? It just hit me. I'm also thinking that its just nature and that some may die and some may be born... Interesting... What do you guys think?

Maybe they just got lucky? and do they fight in the wild or do they just swim off?

Actually bettas can live in all kinds of water systems in the far east, streams, etc. and also in rice paddies. They can live with very low oxygen levels and are very hardy, which probably is the main reason for their success.

There was enough space for females to retreat, and as for the workers, for everyone they stepped on there were many more, they simply have enough eggs.

That's what I thought. There was so much space to live that they didn't bother anybody else, I mean rarely hurt others.

Wild betta no eqauals Walmart betta. The bettas you buy are bred for fin length, colour and aggression. Wild bettas such as imbellis males don't like each other much, but the fights only go on until one retreats. In a tank, a fish bred for aggression meeting another fish he has been bred to fight would indeed fight, but there would be nowhere to run away to, and only one source of food.
