I noticed some fungus growing on my pleco. None of the other fish show any signs of fungus or problems.

For a week I treated with some antifungal meds. Little to no results. I did a couple big water changes to remove most of the meds. Now for over a week I've been treating with malafix (which is the reason I didn't use carbon to remove meds). I've seen little to no results with this either.

I think the plecos poop has been longer and stringier than normal (but then again, i didn't really pay as much attention to it when it was well compared to since its gotten sick, so maybe its just a higher attention for detail.)

The other fish seem to be fine, my water params are normal, although there was a nitrite spike right before/during the start of the fungus, which I believe probably played a part in the pleco getting the fungus.

Any suggestions? are my others in any danger? any comments welcome.

I am assuming you don't have a hospital tank...

Maybe you could raise the temp a little bit and put a little salt in your tank while continuing the meds. If Melafix doesn't work once you've run the whole treatment then I'd do another water change and begin with new anti-fungal meds until something works.

And this is a shot in the dark but last year, I thought I had a fungal infection and used Melafix and whatnot only to find out that it was a bacterial infection that looked like fungus. Once I treated with the antibacterial stuff recommended by my LFS, the problem almost immediatly was solved.

Good luck! ;)

*agrees with what jrd77 said* except no salt!! Plecos aren't good with salt, it burns their skin!
