I just purchased a male platy from my fish store. I put him in the tank with my 1 female platy (I know shes female because she was pregnant when i purchased her). After looking at both fishs fins, I realized they are the same. Does anyone have any real good explanation of determining whether its a male or a female?

well if the fin is pointy and is pointing towards the end of the tail it is a male. but if the fin is round shaped(like a normal fin) it is a female.

:) At the bottom of the fish is a fin called the anal fin. In the males, the fin is pointed and rod-like. The female's fin is opened and shaped like a fan. It's very easy to tell males from females after you know what to look for. Hope this helps!

These are the females notice their anal fin which is triangle shaped
