This is a Limnophila Sessiflora.

Lower part of the stem. Leaves are withered/yellow brown. Not looking good, but not absolutely horrible either.

Top part of the stem. Fresh leaves are a brilliant green and very fine. They look really nice.

Why are the lower leaves suffering, while the upper ones are doing fine? Remember, they are on the same stem.

Possibly not enough light getting to the lower leaves?

i was thinking that, but the plant has tiny branches poking out from the base. these guys are much more shaded than the pictured ones, and still live.

maybe the plant naturally forces all its energy to growth instead of sustainability. idk.

i have this in my tank, and your estimate is correct. think of them like trees in a forest. They will put all of their energy into growing and getting above the other trees, to get to the light source...

It is a beautiful plant, however, it is only beautiful by its self...

and if you are getting white leaves then it is deff a calcium deficiency
