Hi,

I'm re-planting my small low-tech tank tomorrow but I have a bit of red brush algae and I want to eliminate it (as far as possible) so my new plants aren't affected. I'm chucking out the couple of existing plants I have anyway, but there is algae on some driftwood, and ornament and the plastic casing of my filter.

I read that placing things in a bleach dip will kill the algae, making it easy to remove. Not sure how I would manage that with the plastic casing of the filter without bumping the cycle though.

Would bleach-dipping the driftwood and ornament work though? Most worried about the driftwood - in case it leaches it back out later or something. I do have some other driftwood soaking so I could replace it instead.

also, what concentration of bleach? I'm using 1 part bleach, 19 parts water to disinfect the new plants - would this concentration also be OK for the algae-infected wood/ornament

(I will be using plenty of de-chlorinator afterwards to rinse)

thanks muchly in advance
