Ok i have about 17 babies in my tank and mum- someone at my mums work said that mum will eat all the babies so i tried to get them all in a breeeding trap- couldnt catch any, then i thought ill try to get mum- she seems really stressed is it a myth that she will eat the babies? If it isn't why didnt anybody tell me hen i asked for advice?

I just read your previous posts after posting my response, and I think you were warned or told about the mother eating the fry in the guppy has spawned topic you posted. And yes YES guppies will eat their fry...I had it happen before and had to put her in the trap thing, which turned into stress for her and she gave birth to most of the fry but then died halfway through labor...Anyway, you should move the mother to a different tank immediately if you want to make sure all of your fry survive. If you have a lot of plants/hiding places for the fry, you may lose some or all or none...but I think it is general knowledge that guppies eat their fry and it should be posted on the topic about the fish on this site...that's kind of why I like my platys b/c I read they are less likely to eat their fry as long as you keep feeding them well up until you can get them out of the tank once the labor is over. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Anna, would say same thign and move the fish out ASAP if you want all the fry to survive.

O.K panacking now as i can't put her in any of my tanks. Have put her in the breeding trap which is not very big to say the least!,
What on earth can i do :(

I don't know about your bigger tank's fish, but what would be wrong with that one or temporarily moving her to the 22 ltr (?) that you said is setup? If you have no options, I guess the breeding trap is ok as long as it's not freaking her out too much...I know one of my tanks came with a divider, a plastic thing you could shove in teh tank especially for bettas so they dont' kill each other...if you had or could get/make one of those, that could be another option (?)

The problem is i meant to put cycling on 22Ltr and i don't have a heater for it
What can i do?

How old/large are the guppy fry? It isn't a myth that guppys will eat their fry and each others, but in my experience many guppys will only pay interest in guppy fry when they are very small/young, once they reach 1-2months old they are largely or completely ignored.
The question you have to ask yourself, is do you really want to raise 17 guppy fry? Remember that its only going to take 3months til they are sexually mature and well on their way to being half grown or more and ready to be rehomed, although it may seem like enough to time to work out what you are going to do with them when they are mature, time flys by with guppy fry. Do have somwhere like a lfs that you know for sure will take the fry off you once they are suitable size? If you keep some of them, you also have to make sure they cant breed with each other or any close reletave guppys.
Personally, i would just buy some nice densley leaved plants, and make a good area in the tank which is densley planted- the fry will instinctively hide in the plantd area once born, and its unlikely the mother guppy will chow down more than a few if she does decide to eat them if she's only there for a couple of days- you also have to remember that not all guppys will eat their fry, come will completely ignore them totally.
Most fry that get eaten by the mother are weak to start off with, the reason why some guppy mothers eat their own fy is actually to weed the weak ones out at the start and give the strong and healthy ones a head start in life  .
17 guppy fry in a breeding net is rather crowded, they are not going to able to much growing in it, personally what i would do if you really, really want to raise these fry, is leave 7 or so of them in the main tank and just raise 10- of them in the breeding net for a 3weeks/a month to give them a head start, the chances are some of the guppy fry that go in the main tank will survive as well  .

Thanks for your advice but my 22Ltr has been cycling for 5days so will she be ok in the trap for a further 5,
Plans for the guppys are fine and looks like i only have about 10 left anyway
EDIT:
The fry are about 10hours old +/- a few hours. They are about 1/2Centremetre and look awesome-
How long yuntill they get their colouring- Mean while iv'e asked a member on the forums if she would be able to keep her for a few weeks

The pregnant guppy has been in the net? Thats a bad idea, she's better off in the main tank, i certainly wouldn't keep her in there for 5days as the stress it will cause may cause her to abort her fry or suffer other serious birthing complications- its advised you only keep guppy sized fish for a max of 2-3days in a breeding net/trap.
Im quite new to your situation as i've been off the forum for a while, where exactly are the guppy fry and which tank is the pregant guppy in? Do you have a heater for the new tank yet?

Ok ill start again,
I had my heavily pregnant guppy in my 65Ltr on her own for 2weeks,
Last night she had her babies,
Nowi have put her in the breeding trap to stop her from eating them.
I have no other places to put her

I would put half the fry in the breeding net and take her out, adult fish should be your priority over fry and keeping her in a breeding net will be doing her health no good, stress can bring on desease and the least thing you want to do is have to medicate your fry tank. The fry's health will be much less affected by the confines of the breeding net than the adult guppy mother's at this stage  .

Problem sorted a great member on here (Betawen) lives right near me, she has offered to look after mum!,
Thanks guys,
James

that's good!! As you don't wanna keep the mum in with the fry or in the breeding trap/net and if you can't move her back into the main tank then that's good you have somebody near by to help you out...for my platy I have her in a separate tank and she'll be moved back into the main tank once she gives birth to the fry that way the fry are safe in a tank of their own and she can go back into the main tank without any probs...good luck man!

thanks once again, will she be ok in there for another day?(the breeding trap i mean)

Another 24hours shouldn't do too much harm, but remove her as soon as you can as the stress can be fairly lethal. The traps really aren't :( the nets are slightly better; just section off a small portion of the tank for the fry.

how does she look??Is she freakin out or seem ok? if she seems fine a day should be fine, if she looks stressed you may want to do like Tokis-Phoenix said and get some hiding plants in there for the fry and let her out or just let her out as if she's already eaten 7 fry she may not eat anymore...it's one of those things where you don't know for sure what could happen...I'd be careful though, if she's stressed out like Tokis said, that could lead to bad things in the fry tank...Can she really not go in your main tank?? Just wondering or what about the other tank with no heater? If the water temp is warm enough or if you have a light for it sometimes that is enough to keep the water at a stable temp, esp if it's only for a night until your friend can pick up the mum.

Good Luck
