Desperate For Advice

Yesterday I brought 2 golden gouramis which I thought would be great additions to my community tank.

The male has turned on the female and hunts her down.
Questions
1. Is this normal behaviour?
2. If i remove one which one?
3.Would the remaining one be ok on his/her own?

Any advice would be grateful as this chasing situation is stressing out the whole tank.

I removed my male and took him back and swapped him for a female.
Everything calmed down, and the females swim together with no problems.
The female would be ok on her own.

All of the above.Should i remove him now so she doesnt get too stressed?
