I found these really nice desktop aquariums from a company called Ocean Treasures Collection http://www.oceantreasurescollection.com . They do not give alot of technical detail about them. Could someone give a clue as to what questions I should be asking, or could anyone give me some advice. I do understand that I will not be able to put very many fish in this size of a tank but I still think it would be a cool office tank.

Thanks,

Hello,
I am a newbie too - so I can not give you any technical questions to ask them. It looks like for the price you get everything you need to get started (live sand, salt etc...).
The one thing on their site that throws a caution up to me is that they mention once you add the salt and the sand and RO water that you can begin to add your fish.... this is not true... the tank must be fully cycled first or you will become very frustrated with the whole situation quickly. Cycling can take a couple of months to complete... so my final advice to you would be to begin reading the newbie sections of this forum on beginning a saltwater tank and purchase a really good book for starting a tank.
Those are really beautiful tanks - and I hear having acrylic is easier than glass that has seams... good luck!

I would be wary, why? well...

1. The fish in the pic would be unsuitable in that size tank, apart from two clowns, not the three shown.

2. No mention of a skimmer.

3. 10 watts of lighting would be useless for almost all corals.

4. I did have a look but may have missed it, tank volume? It looks very small 5 - 10 gallons.

Further browsing the badly designed site, did offer some tank dimentions, one of wich was 14" x 14" x 28 1/2" tall, 28 1/2" tall? with a 10 watt bulb :(

I would have a look at building your own nano tank following the huge amount of advice on here and at an LFS that has a good rep with marines. It will be cheaper and may have some live fish in it after a few months.

This tank is a setup for headaches. Wait until the diatoms cover all that nicely painted acrylic....and then..scraping the algae out? ROFLMAO.......SH

look into just buying a 30 gallon long tank and get a good protein skimmer on the back and use live rock as a filter, if you have enough flow using power heads, you should be fine

that would be a suitable desktop aqauriums.

OR you could go with a nano cube, those things look sharp and I think SH has a thread for customizing them to be able to grow most corals.

It has been sometime since I have been on here and I would like to thank everyone for their posts... Well I took the plunge anyway and bought one of the Ocean Treasures tanks. I have had the tank up and running now for 3 months and love it. This tank is absolutely beautiful and so far has been fairly easy to maintain I have 2 tank raised percula clowns and a crab and everyone is doing well. I did replace the bulb with a 50/50 and mainenance has been much easier than my 60 gallon I tried last time around toooooo much work. I spend maybe 1 hour a week working on it and get to enjoy it the rest, I am glad I waited because the prices have dropped. I decided to get the Acient Egypt which works very well with my decor.

Orrible Hateful thing IMO

Glad to hear that all is going well! :) I certainly like the looks of these tanks but the price really put me off....do you mind my asking how much you paid for yours? Any pics? Does the fake coral piece come out of the tank so you can clean it? Just curious!

Well...I'm sorry to post this. I hope your tank keeps on the way it is. That 5 gallon tank is considered Pico sized (unless they make something larger than a 5 gallon) and there should be NO marine fish in a saltwater tank that size. Not only that, the minimal sized tank for percs is 30 gallons. I think it is cruel. Those percs can potentially make 3 inches big and 6 inches of marine fish in a 5 gallon marine.......

If you are conscientious, you would take the percs back and consider converting to inverts...put shrimp and snails in there. JMO. SH

I'm not a regular here, but those tanks are something else! It looks like something that you see in the Airplane's catelog when you're flying, would fit right in with the coffee table goldfish tank! I'm glad it's working for the one who has purchased one, but I'd rather get a 29g, 30, or 20g long and start a nano from scratch and build my own system.

I agree with Steelhealr, I pity the person who has to clean algae off that tank. I speak from experience, as a former owner of a obnoxious 45g hex tank.

ya those are cool i think too small to enjoy tho, my lfs has a really cool 2.5 gallon tank and it has an entire setup of plants and fishes and hes gotten it so he doesnt have to clean it or moniter it so its a natural cycle its really coool i bet its the most complicated thing to do tho, but looks awsome i bet thes would be great for that.
