Dempsey Bully Oscar Help....

i have have 1.5inch jack dempsey and a 2.5 inch oscar, jack is attacking oscar what should i do? 55 gal tank btw i have one guppy about the same size as the oscar a red eared baby turtle and a pleco whats wrong with the picture wouldnt mind some help please and thank you

55gal long term is going to be too small to hold both jack and oscar, it'll hold the jack alone though but only just IMO.
The guppy will become food for both of these fish, not a clue with turtle but i'm going to guess that doesn't work either.

They could just be fighting for dominance but if it's serious you could try removing the jack for a few days.

yea i just found out about that also haha, the jack is circling the whole tank to every "cave" i made in the tank and its not letting the oscar go into any of them, right now the oscar is sitting at the top corner of tank to get away from the jack.. and im guessing this is very serious? haha thank you

the guppies are getting along with the jack and the oscar, its jsut the jack attacking the oscar and why doesnt the oscar retaliate?

you should check my recent post out dude.... my dempsey killed my snakehead and the snakehead was larger.... i think its time for you to upgrade your tank.. because thats one thing i should have done ages ago ...... for the time being.. make a cave or something for the demsey

If the oscar is staying in the top corner of the tank then i'd class that as serious yes, either remove the oscar or try removing the jack for a few days or even weeks until the oscar claims some of the tank back, this doesn't always work though.

Oscar will need about 75g long term though.

The guppy will eventually become food for the jack and oscar when they grow, without fail.

A little off-topic... But did you say your guppy was the same size as your oscar? 2.5 inches is a big guppy

I've kept red-eared slider turtles before, they like to have a little land and a heat lamp/stone. They can't swim constantly, it burns them out.

I got a 55 gallon with a dempsey and a jag that just got to the size to where i'm having problems. I just got a 55 gallon tank devider to seperate them because i do not have my 125 gallon yet. If you don't got the spare tank you can get one of these at petco or your LFS possibly. Its working fine for me until i get the larger tank.

Although this is purely a suggestion but dan you remove the Dempsey and maybe try shifting your tank round abit so that it breaks down what WAS the XJD territiry & starts again in effect.

The dempsey is going to go after any fish, regardless of size if its in a territorial mood. I had a 3 inch female jack put a 7 inch oscar in the corner on the floor. They rightfully earn their names. My male Jack recently battled it out with my Green Terror, and mind you the GT won the dominance struggle, but Jack gave him a pretty good run. And like others said, they will eat tht guppy...surprised they havent yet.

Unless you are planning on upgrading soon, I would rehome the oscar. The Jack can live in a 55g provided there are no other fish his size. If anything, find him a lady...they make cute babies

Big difference between a 55g with 3 tiny fish and a 30g with numerous larger fish...

A jag will eventually need around 125-150 gallon to itself if it's a male. If its a female then you may be ok with a 125 gallon

you need to find a new home for the red eared slider. They're not fully aquatic turtles, and shouldn't be mixed with fish period, seeing how they're extremely ravenous eaters and are prone to attacking competition, a slider would rip up an oscar or jack dempsey any day. They require an extremely different tank habitat than any fish, something more like this

even with land provided, turtles need to have UVB and basking lights to grow and maintain proper temperature.

I have 4 jacks in one tank, and heck they will turn on each other. I can't imagine the guppy or turtle being there... Both Oscar and Jack will kill both of em eventually. IMO 55 gal is large enough for both jack and Oscar for now. Both are still small. But if your jack is that aggressive I would remove the Oscar and get him another Jack to befriend. I feel really bad for the Oscar. When my jacks are spawning, they scare my other 2 to where they almost jump out the tank! I take em out til the process is over... I remove the fry and they let them come back with no problems. However they do still fight occasionally.

I was told if the Oscar was bigger like yours is it could live with the jacks... Apparently not in your case. Sorry.

I'd be more worried about the fish than the turtle. Red ear sliders are mean little things. They would wreck a fish before it could even bite back.

Oscars grow extremely fast and most will reach 10-12 inches within the first year if housed correctly. Mine at 8-9 inches right now and barely 10 months old.
