i believe the mce300 is meant to be used outside the sump. the E in mcE stands for external if i recall correctly
 
They are HOB skimmers and not really designed for this BUT I did consider this my self before I realised my cabinet under my tank is not big enough really to house a sump.

You could just partition a very small section of the sump maybe an inch wide where the inlet pipe goes, because this will be a very small area the water level will be higher, then just direct the outlet pipe to the chamber next to it.

Here is a very quick paint example of what I mean, all though im not sure how this would turn of if you had a power cut as obviously the overflow will continue to fill up that first chamber until the overflow level is met.

That may just work so long as I put the drain pipe in to the same section as the skimmer, as if the power were to fail the rest of the sump would rise to the a preset level without risking a flood :good:

yep that will work, if you are going to do it make sure to take loads of pics to post......then if I do decided to get a bigger cabinet and do it I have some instructions :lol:
