Hey, if I put a dehumidifier in the same room as my tank, will the water in the tank evaporate? Thanks in advance!

*EDIT* I forgot to mention that the tank has a hood on it.

i wouldnt think it would evaporate noticeably faster but the reduced moisture in the air will cause more evaporation

I agree with Colegamby. In theory more water will evaporate when the rooms humidity is lower, but there are many other factors involved. Keep the hood closed and I'm sure you'll be fine. Worse comes to worse, instead of loosing 1/8 of an inch over the course of a week you'll loose 3/16 of an inch.

Thanks for the fast replies! I was only worried about it because my dad mentioned something about it... parents always think they know everything! :p

I despise how true that is.......

The dehumidifier gives off heat, besides removing humidity. You will run your heaters less, as it will warm up the room slightly. You will end up using more electric, it's an inefficient way to heat a room.

Humidity in a room with many tanks is always a problem. It always finds a place to condense, causing mold & water related problems. A dehumidifier in a fish room is a good idea.

They don't dry it out that much. They're similar to an air conditioning unit, except they don't vent to the outside. A.C. doesn't pull out all the humidity, just enough to make it comfortable.

It sure does! Cars drip water in the summer because of ac. Window units drip, my central air has a small sump box & pump that pumps the water to my main sump pump.
