This may seem like a really stupid question to all you experts but can you use any type of wood in a tank? I've been forking out for big bits of mopani when I've got huge logs in my garden where I had my oak tree cut down. Are these suitable for a tank, just don't understand the difference between any old logs and bogwood etc.

You probably all think I'm a right idiot but better that I ask people who know then just keep wondering

Thanks for that, so the wood in my tree will never be suitable? It's been outside for about 4 months and the tree had been dead for about 6 months(maybe longer) before that so do you think it would still have toxins / parasites. Just seems like such a waste, because there's 30 or so logs out there.
