hi everyone,

my living room is in desperate need of re painting and as this is the room my tank is in i was wondering if the paint fumes will affect my fish? will i need to move them to another room? any advice would be much appreciated!

cheers

When my living room got redecorated it put a sheet over the fish tank and made sure the lid was on properly. It also depends on wether you need to paint the wall behind the fish tank as to wether or not you move it.

When i painted my bedroom moving the tank out the room was out of the question no way im taking it down a flight of stairs! so i just covered it up with a plastic bag and towels to stop the fumes getting in moved it to the centre of the room, painted, with all the windows open, and then did a sufficent water change just incase anything had dissolved in the water...all my fish were fine.

thanx for the advice guys!
if i don't need to move the tank i don't think i'll paint behind it as it would be too much of a trauma and not gonna be getting rid of it or moving so nobody will ever see behind it! lol!

its 50gal so would be a bit of a nightmare to move! no idea when i gonna get round to painting, its on my very long list of things to do! but we got 3 big windows i can open so can get plenty of fresh air in!

its only a 50G it wouldnt be that hard just to move it slightly foward enough so you can get behind and put a lick of paint just incase! you never know what might happen and then ure left with a gap in the paint! I moved my 65G foward pretty easily. But its up to you !

i'll see how fit im feeling when i get round to doing it! probably will paint behind it cause knowing my luck i'll have to move it for some reason in the future!

I faced the same problem when I had to paint my room. I used a large, ripped across a seam, garbage bag. It all depends on the size of your tank what you can use. :D
