Got my new tank (55g) and have been debating wether to go with a rocky theme or trying to make it look as natural as pos. with the amazon mangrove kind of look. Personally i prefer the natural look but unfortunately i have two severums in there which will just devour the plants, i could get fake plants but i think that just defies the whole point in natural. Also i THINK the rocks will effect the water, am i right?

If you have fish which will devour plants, You don't really have much choice do you?
Though I personally really like the natural look.

Depends on what rocks you get on whether they effect the water.

If it's a cichlid tank then no plants or you will probably get very upset and frustrated when they are uprooted and eaten

You could try something tough like Java ferns tied to bogwood? Most fish leave them alone as the leaves are so tough, and they won't get uprooted as they need to be tied to wood/rock instead of being planted in substrate. Perhaps get just a couple of Javas and a piece of bogwood to try it out? If they leave the ferns alone then add more. Then you could still have plenty of rocks and caves, but also the planted wood. Java moss may also work too.

Most plant-eating fish don't like the taste of java ferns anyway so you should be safe with them.
