Hi guys. What interior decor do you have for your rams. I want to rearrange my tank so they benifit and feel safe and have their own territory. Any ideas? Lots of plants? Caves? Arches?

Well you pritty much answerd your own question :p Rams like a well planted tank with lots of hiding places and areas to explore :) so yes, give a good mix of plants (either real or fake), caves and other hide aways.

Yep I would agree with that. They are reasonably intelligent fish and do like to have lots of areas to explore. They will probably pick one area of the tank as "home" but will explore the tank. They tend to stay in the bottom area of the tank for the most part but will go to all levels (especially once they learn that most food sits on the water surface before dropping down :) ).

Give them lots of areas to explore and they should be pretty happy. If you have a pair then try and give them a secluded area with a flat rock or substrate they can dig in to lay eggs. Mine lay their eggs in a small patch between two plants because it is well covered from the sides and in the corner of the tank so I guess they feel safer there. Mine are not very active/fast swimmers so you dont need to leave masses of open swim room for them.

Very good advice here. I just wanted to add that my Bolivian rams really enjoy a sand substrate (especially now, as they are with family) They dig a little to make holes for the wigglers and also earlier on to help camoflage the eggs. Bogwood is good too and the little bit of tannis it leaks into the water seems to get them in the mood. Good luck with them!
