Hi, i've have decided to start again and turn my tank tropical. I purchased a heater at the weekend and brought some plants and have set my tank up. Added Stress Zyme and Stress Coat to the water the tank has now been running for 4 days and the readings are good so far! :)

My tank is 30ltr and has a filter and airstone. My Local Fish Shop who are VERY good has told me I can have a small shoal of 6 glowlight neons. Starting with 2 on Saturday (tank will have been cycling a week) 2 the following week and 2 the week after. The tank will then have been cycling for 3 weeks.

I am then going to add 2 male guppys and a bristle nose pleco to get rid of all algae. The shop has assured me that with regular water changes this will be fine. Do you agree or disagree??

Thanks :p :D

Disagree I'm afraid. If all you have is tap water in your tank it wont have started 'cycling' because you dont have an ammonia source.

Please look into a fishless cycle - its pinned in the beginners section.

If you decide to cycle with fish I wouldn't start with neons - they're not generally hardy enough.

In addition, your stocking plan isn't really suitable for the size of tank.

A 30 l tank is about 6.6 UK gallons.

6 neons would be just about all the tank could cope with IMO. I certainly wouldn't add a bristlenose pleco to a tank that size - it'll grow too big.

Others may disagree tho'
