whats the active chemical in dechlorinator, and would it be cheaper to just does this? if so how much would you have to does each time, per 10L say

Unless you have access to laboratory grade chemicals, I wouldn't even bother.

that i do. what would i need and in what doses?

I suggest against it, sourcing the stuff they put in it would be more of a pain than just buying a bottle that lasts like half a year.

my mums a science teacher, she could order any chemical for labs if i asked and payed her, the sourcing isent a problem

thanks =]

how do i find out how much chlorine's in my water?

I believe there's a test kit for that. :p I'd test it out on samples of tap water until it turns to 0ppm before applying it to the tank.
