I just have a few questions before I decide. I have never kept livebearers before, but I am aware that they are aquatic bunnies. =3 I do have three 45gallon growout tanks (plastic tubs :rolleyes: ) for fry, and my LFS is estatic to know that they would be getting fish from me. I never knew that I was known as that good around there. :*)

I have a spare 10 gallon, would this be ok for the guppies, and if so, how many are reccomended in this size at what male to female ratio?

Also, what types (color/tail) are most desired at the moment?

As for the mollies I am not sure about how many exactly I want, but I do have a spare 55 gallon tank that has 5 very very peaceful rosy barbs in it. What types are recommended and how many? What is the best ratio of male to female?

Yes, I have read up on these species (Until I just conldn't stand to see the letters Ph. or the word size...then I took a break and read some more), but I would like to know things from the people that have experience with these species.

Any stories are welcome as well, this will helpme plan for happy homes for my new babies.

Any help is appreciated, and any suggestions for other species are welcome as well.

Thanks;
Mina

If I were you i'd get platies they are more colorful but be aware that If you have a male and female platies you will get tons of babies but this is the samewith any live breader to

Well, I have a 10 gallon tank with one female guppy and 6 fry. So I would say it is fine to have guppies in a 10 gallon. And I would put about 8 guppies in my 10 gallon, but the main "rule" is 1 gallon per 1 inch of fish. And The ratio is 1 male to 2 females. Hope I helped a little. Sorry I don't know anything about mollies. Good luck! :D

I'm not so sure about the platies, their body structure just looks a bit odd to me. :unsure: What kind of personality do they have?

So, three male guppies and six females would be ok? :) cuz that sounds like a good amount to me. :thumbs:

5-6 guppys with 4-5females and 1male would be a good mix for a 10gal, if you are just keeping rosy barbs and mollys in the 55gal, 8mollys with 2males and 6females would be a good number.
Guppys can produce fry on a monthly basis and can have as many as 30+fry a month, although mollys can also have fry on a monthly basis 2months is more common as they tend to have bigger batchs of fry and a fully mature/large female have have up a 100fry every 2months.
Platys are prettty much the same as guppys as far as needs and stocking goes, and sowrdtails are pretty much the same as mollys- i wouldn' worry about ph as livebearers can happily live in a variety of ph's and are very adaptable.
As for tail types, delta tails(long tailed guppys) are very nice looking but due to their extensive inbreeding they will often die for no reason and aern't very hardy at all- if you are looking for good genes and imune system, your standard old fashioned short tailed guppys are much hardier :) .
Livebearers can live entirely off fish flakes but they like a vegetable element to their diet ao cooked de-shelled peas or algae wafers or blanched cucumber once a week is good for them- they also love thawed out frozen/freezedried bloodworms/tubifex/daphinia/krill too 2 or 3 times a week in place of their fish flake meals.
