One of my corys well died unfortunatley. I have 2 types, one is the normal type no design, a little bigger then an inch in length, and the one that died was smaller, a little less then an inch, with a pokadot pattern on his body.

I came in one night to see him hovering up on the surface of the water, i knew something was wrong immediatley because they never do that. Upon closer inspection i saw his left eye was abit cloudy, i immediatley did a water change and decided to get some meds when the store opens, which was in about 2 days. The next day its the same, him hovering in one spot on close to the surface of the water.

On the third day however, i came back, he was playing with his buddys doing his normal thing, and his eye cleared up. I thought great, and decided due to my budget of 0 dollars i wouldnt put meds in, i would if i saw signs of anything else.

So today, about a week after the incident, im cleaning the gravel, and i come to the other side, and long behold there he is, lying there. When i looked closer his eye was all but pushed out, and he had a large whole on the bottom right side, under his gils, a little more down actually.

I dont know whats going on, i did a 50% water change but am not sure where to go. The whole could have been from another fish but all my fish are friendly, or dont have the capability to actually do that. So im stuck, water levels are nominal, asides from some slightly elevated nigtrate levels which are completely normal for my tank.

Sounds bacerial to me was the eye bulging out.
Cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease not a desease in its own right, parasites, bacterial, bad water quality, irratation, poor diet, stress, old age.

How many gallons or lites is the tank.
How high is the nitrate reading, what your tap nitrate reading.

Its eye was not bulging out, its just when i found him dead that it was.

The tank is 55 gallons, the nitrate reading is about 50 i believe, and the tap water reading is 0.5.

I keep a close eye out on the readings, and i also do 25% water changes each week keeping the water levels normal, i also vac the gravel whenever i see fit, never goes more then 1 month without vac.

That tap nitrate reading your tank should be around that area so you need to be doing weekly vacs.

Corys are prone to bacterial infections you need very good water quality and gravel vacs.
Bad bacteria can grow in the gravel where the corys live, could be eating rotten food, and debris mounting up under ornaments and such.
