Deadfish In Lfs

Geeze.. and I thought the LPS were bad here, can't say they're really any better though.
Lots of dead fish most of the time we go into them. Especially the fish shop.. the place you would think would care more about having healthy fish.
But nope... in the majority of their tanks are dead fish being eaten... something looking as if they've been in there for a while.
Then at the Petsmart I had thought was good... one of the employees was cleaning out and tank and GOOD GOD was it NASTY. She disturbed the gravel and the water got so cloudy with gunk you couldn't even see the fish any more.

That example of PetsMart doesn't mean that they are a bad store. There is pretty much no way to avoid having gravel full of mulm in a pet store. The population density is much higher than in most home aquariums and unless they cleaned the tanks every single day there is going to be a build up of mulm. We clean a third of our tanks a week (gravel vacuuming) and it takes about 8 hours to do. If we tried to do it every day it would take at least 3 people and most pet stores aren't going to spend that kind of money (not to mention how many interuptions would happen from customers). Its a good sign that the employee at PetsMart was doing the gravel vacuuming, I have known stores that have NEVER cleaned their tanks and don't even know what a gravel vacuum is.

I usually see a couple dead fish in every lfs I go to. They try to net them out when they see them and have time. Usually if you spot the dead fish and tell the staff they'll take it out and thank you for telling them. I have never experienced over 100 dead fish though. That would be quite a site to see! :( :(
