sorry for you mates loss,if it is actualy dead, but you not gonna get much help with the above comment :good:

Sorry for your friends loss. The head and legs are normally tucked in for hibernation. From what my vet has told me bloating is a sign of kidney infection/failure, or internal digestive problems. Was the turtle kept with gravel on the bottom of the tank? if so this could have been the cause as they can pick up the stones and swallow then but never pass them causing a blockage.

was it a female if so it could of been egg bound they get really fat then and it is also deadly for turtles too as the eggs get soft and break and they end up with a sort of toxic plasmosis basically it poisons them from the inside or it could be like star4 said impaction from small stones/gravel or kidney and liver failier which is part of the egg bound if left too long without doing something. It could also of been a water tenp issue not warm enough it could of slowed the metabolism down so the food that it eats ends up rotting in the stomach causing a reaction the swelling and kidney/liver failier
An overall body swelling or bloating is usually fluid retention or oedema, which can have a number of underlying causes.
One cause could be kidney failure......but it's hard to know without looking into the background of the turtle and if its got any other underlying problems.

sorry for your friends loss its never easy

As his arms and legs are stetched out id say its dead.
After all, if it was hibernating its limbs would be pulled out of the way.

I agree with jay though.

Sorry for yourr loss
