I've just lost one of my silver tip tetras, he had been hiding in the big plant in my tank for a couple of days with his nose pointing down. He had passed this morning so I removed him, he seemed to have a little slime on his sides, is this normal or a disease? I think the rest of my tank are not eating much, maybe just paranoia. I have 8 silver tip tetras 10 black shirt tetras and 1 blue Gourami in a 30 gallon tank with natural plants.

The only thing I can think it was is columnaris, but these fish have been all together in this tank for 18 months now, maybe it was just his time? The temp is normal and the nitrates too. If it is a disease where in the UK could I get treatment?

All my other fish look fine, no white spot or discolouration and all acting normally apart from I swear they are not as interested at feeding time.

yes it is a disease and thats y ur fishf r not eating i no this sounds stupid take half the water out then top back up then add some t.c.p about 3 cup fills then repeat 2days later this should help clear the parsite in the water

Seems a bit premature to me to jump to a treatment conclusion so fast with so little information. We need Wilder here with all the great questions.

You have said your temp and nitrates are normal... what are they? Have you also tested your ammonia? You said your fish might not be eating much, what sort of behavior have they been exibiting?

24C is normal, 15PPM Nitrate is normal, but the Ammonia is a bit high at 0.4, how should I lower this? Would a 30% water change enough? All the other fish exibit normal behaviour, i've just fed them and they ate ok, I think I was being a bit paranoid before.

I get paranoid a lot too over my fish since I had a major disaster a few months back.

A water change sound good. Glad your fish seem better.

Hopefully Wilder will come along, Wilder is good a noticing things the rest of us don't.

Just noticed this mark on my Blue Gourami. She's acting normal and still has her spots, when she was being bullied by a male she lost them. Any ideas what this mark is, it looks like a hole to me. I didn't see anything like this on the Tetra that died.
