Dead Platy

I don't have any peas. I don't think I'll be able to go out and get some either. I don't have any vegetables in my house right now. So all I have to feed her are flakes and brine shrimp. Even if I did have peas, she doesn't look like she's going to eat any.

What other veggies can I feed her?

Cabbage i feed the savoy cabbage, sproats now they are out, lettuce but not all fish like it , cucumba depends on the fish, broc my fish love that, peas, carrots, fruit, mine don't like fruit, bananna messy the water so i would only feed that once in a while, spinach.

I dont have any veggies at all in my house. I can try and pick some up later today though.

When do you think she'll have her babies?

Don't no the pictures were blury, just let her get on with it, don't put her in a breeder as it stresses the fish out, and she can even die or abort, if you have plenty of plants and hiding spaces most of the fry can survive.Good luck.

Thanks. I'm gong to catch the fry and put them in the breeder net, so they can grow large enough to escape fish from eating them, then I'll release them.

The only time I'm not home is from 6-2. I heard that they have babies during the evenings or mornings. Is that true?

Mine always had them at night when i was in bed, i would gather them up the next day, was getting good a catching fry, catched about 35 once in one go.

Will she have her babies in the dark? IDK if you have lights on during the night, and she had them with the lights on. The tank is in my room, and obviously theres no lights on.

Probably less stressful, fish probably have them in the dark in the wild, so can't see that being a problem.

Your'e welcome, good luck.

Sadly, this platy just died. This is the second platy that was pregnant that died on me, and I don't know why. Any ideas? She was having a hard time swimming correctly, she was like twisting and stuff like that (swim bladder problem due to babies pushing on it?) Any help?

Sorry R.I.P. quite common with livebearers, was she old as keep having babies takes there toll on the fish body.

Not sure how old she was, but the first one that died was definetely old and trying to carry babies. But the one that just died was maybe midlife I tihnk.

Sorry, but it sounds like they just had no more to give with giving birth all the time, that's why it best to issolate them and give them a break, as they can carry sperm for several months, it just wears there body out.

Hmmm, I don't know what to do then. I think my LFS has the older and bigger platys. I don't see any smaller and younger ones. They only have young guppies. Would it be ok, to have different variety platys? Like I now have 2 rainbow platys, so could I put them with painted platys or sunset fire wag platys? Will they cross breed?
