Fish Crazy
When a fish dies, is it best to leave it in the water and let the other fish feed on it or does it just make the water poisenous and better to clean it?
take it out and dont flush it as it can spread disease into the water where the wasto goes. put in a plasticbag and tie the bag then put it in the bin.![]()

Thats not true. Anything that goes down the sinkhole or toilet goes into a foul water line, which leads onto a foul water (sewage) main. So faeces, urine, blood and all other manner of potentially diseased bodily fluid - along with soap, fat and all sorts of other stuff that goes down the drain. In theory sewage will never meet a freshwater source - river etc. It does happen mind, but is dealt with very very quickly usually - so one diseased fish is not an issue. Trust me on this, until 2 years ago it was my job to deal with it.
As for whether to leave in the tank or remove - you remove it. Personally unless its very dead I freeze it to make sure, then flush it away. The reason for removing is that dead fish break down into ammonia, which affects your tank water quality.
