Rio 180. With substrate in gives 150 litres of water.

Added 7.8mls of ammonia on the 21/09 8 days ago. Temp 30C. Ph 8 using API liquid tester.

Tested every day. Ammonia at start was just over the 4.0ppm but not green enough to be 8.0ppm

Today ammonia is on the 4.0ppm(going by the green) but am not picking up any nitrites.

Am I being impatient or should things be happening.

Took 31 days for my first 0 ammonia reading. Stick in there.

Yes, you're being impatient!!
You should start seeing your ammonia begin to drop soon and nitrites slowly appearing. Nitrite is a slow growing bacteria!

31 days is a bit rough thou.

Yeah I just have an exceptionally slow cycle.

Nothing wrong here... nitrites dont start to appear mostly by 12 - 15 days into the cycle and even that is a fast cycle.

31 days is quite exceptional, I don't know how I'd cope with that. I'm getting wound up because my nitrite isn't dropping as quickly as I'd like on day 21

31 is extreme as cycles go the 1st ammonia drop is normally 7-12 days nitrite takes twice as long ammonia as general rule
