I am watching this on TV now and I couldn't help but make a post about it because I immediately thought of those tiny bubble aquariums that kids keep bettas in......

I think this puts fish keeping into great perspective....

"you wouldn't put a human in a tiny Bubble aquarium...."

"Why would you put a FISH IN ONE !!!!!" hahahahahaha!

Ha, people do the weirdest things. That is a true point though! Does he have a reason for doing this one?

he is kind of a magician / endurance man..... he just wants to prove himself i guess.... But afterwards he attempts a 9minuite breath hold....( the world record is 8:58) but makes it to 7:30.......... still pretty good

when he comes out he is Sooooo wrinkly and gross! hahahah! his hands and feet are ruined....

Yeah, he had to look icky after all that!

I knew he was a magican just wasn't sure if he actually had a reason, like trying for guiness records or just for the heck of it to entertain once again.

I was curious about what his skin looked like and I found these pictures...gross!

I also found this website: David Blaine 'Drowned' Alive, where he says "The only difficulty I have been having is that my hands are already mangled and my feet are pretty bad. It feels like pins and needles, and the flesh is starting to get little perforations. By the end of the week, your skin becomes kind of like paper. It becomes really fragile and delicate." Double gross!

What you have to bear in mind whenever Blaine pulls one of his publicity stunts is that, in his own words, he is an 'ILLUSIONIST'. That description tells you everything you need to know. Not a 'MAGICIAN', but an 'ILLUSIONIST'. If we ignore him, he'll go away.

If we ignore him, he'll go away.
If only...

However, I did like the hostile reception he got in London when he did his starving stunt. The fact that people started practicing their golf shots from London Bridge at him, or Army boys singing to wake hiim up at 4AM is too good. As for the Sun flying a burger attached to a model helicopter around him...pure genius.

Then there were people throwing pizzas at him, shining red lasers on him to make it look like a gun sight...

So many happy memories of an idiot not understanding why we weren't impressed by an illusionist doing a trick.

Couldn't agree more!!

thats exactly the thing that makes me mad....magicians are famous for "MAGIC" tricks (card tricks and so on)..... , Illusionists are famous for "ILLUSION" Magic (Making things float/disappear) , Mentalist magicians do "MENTALISM" magic tricks (mind reading/predictions)......

Why is he considered a Magician or as was stated above an "illusionist" if his major stunts are just things we would consider really uncomfortable like being under water for a week, standing on a 10 story pillar for a day and a half, getting buried alive for a week, doing a famine.....

From a person who does magic, I got mad seeing his show for the first time.... I love the idea and I have a lot of respect for fellow magicians but David Blane does not fit the category in my mind...... although he does a few card tricks before the commercials, the whole show is based around him doing something stupid for a week long or all day or something...

Honestly, when it comes to magic, Criss Angel is the man to hold people up to. David Blane, while considered an Illusionist, has nothing on Criss Angel simply on the level of magic tricks they perform....If you haven't seen him and are into magic I suggest you check him out. I it truly great stuff he performs.

So thats my rant for today! hahahaha! kind of irrelevant I know, but o well those pictures still make me think of a betta in a bubble aquarium! hahaha!

ha ha so your saying david blane is a mentalist :D

guess the slang doesn't translate over the pond but that word would be used as slang to describe someone with a mental illness, or just to poke fun at someone by insinuating that they have one.

Actually, 'Mentalist' in the early days of the entertainment biz was the correct term for the acts, it's just in (relatively) recent years that it's been used in a slang term for someone who is inadequately stable of mind. Blaine is still an 'ILLUSIONIST' in the sense that there is always an element of, how shall I put this politely, misdirection in a lot of what he does.

Why do people on this forum feel the need to criticize EVERYTHING?? Intelligent people know it's not real, but it's entertaining to watch anyway. If you don't like it, whether it be David Blaine, news coverage of certain recent events, etc...then don't watch it. End of story.
