Darn It

Only because it's a 34l tank, and 20 of them would, I think, be too much. In a bigger tank, yeah, no problem. And THANK YOU for a sensible answer, unlike some......

Ahem ahem ahem! ;)

How long were the gobies and the betta in the tank together? Could be that the goby was just having any initial 'look' and his new tank mate. Over time it may well have been that they would have adjusted and just got used to each others presence.

Every single time I have intorduced something new to my tank, my eldest angel has been very inquisitive with his mouth for at least the first day, then just gone to completely ignoring the the newcomer after his interest has abated.

Sorry Lou, your post got lost in Tizer's little shenanigans. What size tank have you got?

48 hours - when I first released the fighter, he dropped to the bottom of the tank, right next to the larger male's favourite cave, and was quickly chased away. I didn't see any further aggression that night, or the following night, but then last night 2/3 nips at him.

My last fighter was moved into that tank because of aggression (cardinal tetra), and whilst £15 isn't much compared to a rare L-number plec, it's double what I've paid for any previous individual fish - I wanted to make sure the new lad was fine.

I think 20 Galaxy Rasboras is a tad OTT, but in all seriousness, what is there in nice brightly coloured micro-rasbora species that I could have 6-8 of?

If it's colour you want, then look into Chilli Rasbora. Although they are, as was said, very skittish.. their colours are fantastic, as well as this they are quite readily available in alot of LFS.

Quick question.. why would 20 Galaky look OTT ? The more of these type of fish you can have then the better they would look. My Chilli's CONSTANTLY live in and amongst my plants, they love cover in the same way a Dwarf Gourami would, but when they do all come together it's a beautiful thing ( )

Terry.

Ah, ok. Personal opinion i guess.

You say you would like 4/5 other type fish, so would i be correct in saying something bigger than a micro-Rasbora? I'm sure Guppy was mentioned further up the thread, what about Endler Guppy? Cheerful little fellas, lovely colour.

it's a 50L, two feet long. I have the betta, 3 male endlers, about 10 chilli rasbora, a clown plec and god knows how many cherry shrimp.

Both the chillis and endlers have never shown any signs of nipping and my betta is comparatively pretty calm. The chillis are lovely, but soooo tiny and quite hard to see, even against plants - i originally had six, but felt I had to up numbers just so I could make them out! I'd probably add a couple more, even. They also shoal in a really weird, zig-zaggy way rather than swimming in unison. But in a tank almost half the volume I think they'd be a decent choice, as would endlers, which are really #41#### cute.

I did mention endlers, chillis are looking very good, and a shoal of 8-10 of them would look stunning. I want something small, not necessarily 4/5 fish - I am just going to be replacing 4 gobies.

you said you liked to over stock so i said 20, if you dont want to over stock, get 12 of them, excellent little fish but do look better in numbers, and if you got some moss in there, you could well get a funky little breeding colony going as they are egg layers and left to their own devices will quite happily breed if the conditions allow it. Its a perfectly nice setup :) But, if you try chillis then they are perfectly good too! I have 4 juvie rasboras in my 7.5 litre fluval spec, i'm hunting for something around the 40 litre mark for a group of 16-20 myself :D

Oh i should add, when they are displaying, they colour up really well, dont expect them to school together though, they do hang out with one another but tend not to cruise around in a big group.

Got an ID for your two hillstream loaches? Unlesss your 34l has magical properties, I fail to see how you can have a section that has positively turbulent cool water for the loaches and still/warm water for the Betta.
