so i come in to check on my 10 gallon, and look at the thermometer, and was shocked to see that it read... :X 98 degrees farenheit! and the crazy thing was that all my fish are still alive. and i had two blue rams in there. i unplugged the heater, it was an old heater anyways. now its time for a new one. atleast there were no casualties. :S

eh, automatic heaters all get stuck in the on/off position eventually... mine got stuck in off, and i didn't realize it for the longest time. Thought my thermometer was broken xD

I know blue rams are quite heat tolerant, as I used to keep mine at about 90 degrees during summer the months. But I didn't think they could survive temperature that high. My bettas (all three of them) survived temperature of 94 degrees for couple of hours.

Tropical fish are more tolerant of heat than most people realize. I doubt that goldfish will survive that kind of temperature though.

EDIT: but then again, goldfish aren't tropical fish!

thats really odd, heaters are designed to fail in the off position if to fail at all.. glad ur fish are ok
