Daphnia

Does anybody know the bestway to keep daphnia or even better ,get them to breed?
I have bought a bagful of them from a garden center.They were quite cheap, but the garden center is an hours drive away
I have put them in a small tank(one of those horrid 10 liter gold fish bowls )with some green water from my friends pond and chucked in some dead algae covered leaves from my tank.
is there anything else i can do, what do they eat?
i would like to get them to breed because my fish go crazy for them(especially my tetras)
