I have a pair of danios with the problem, where they have grown spur-like growths beneath their chins, which has sort of indirectly created a hole under their chins.

I was informed on here that it was a sign of bacterial infection and have I've treated with melafix for 7 days. there does seem to have been an improvement, the wounds don't seem so raw and the spurs have shrunk a little.

Should i keep treating beyond the recommended 7 days? Obviously they look better but it hasn't completely cleared up.

They're eating ok and don't seem to be too bothered by them, apart from the occasional flick against objects. This has reduced since introducing the melafix though.

Edit: Sorry, water stats are Amm: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 20-40. (Tap water 20ppm)

Does it look like a parasite.
Any white eding to the sore, or white centre.

I would add another bacterial med to the tank. Melafix is only good on cuts and wounds.

Did the wound ever start off as a spot and ulcerated the skin away into a hole.
Do the growths look hard or soft like filled with fluid.

Hi Wilder.

Nope definitely not a parasite. It's as if the chin just elongated into a spur or a horn. The tissue of the spur is identical to the rest of the tissue forming the chin/lips/mouth etc. At a cost of the elongation it's left just a very red, sore looking hole. It's as if the floor of the chin has just come away almost.

No white edging, and the spurs look hard, cartilage-like. Started off like a little bump which began to elongate, so not quite like a perforated ulcer.

What other med would you recommend?

Thanks.

Ok.
See your are an arsenal fan so you must be in the uk. LOL.

I would suggest myxazin by waterlife, or anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
