I noticed last night my danio is missing the bottom left of his mouth. The area doesn't look infected or fleshy. It's slighty off color and the other fish look fine. He's active and doesn't seem bothered by it. He's been in the tank for two months with 2 Dwarf Gauramis, 3 mollys, 1 bristlenose, 3 clown loaches, 2 polka dot loaches, and 3 other danios. Ph is about 7-7.5, the water is a bit hard but othere than that no amonia nitrite or nitrates. I noticed some else posted something similar but i'm at a loss. Any suggestions? One other question....i had an upside down catfish in there that disappeared....no bones just gone one day. I have an external filter and he wasn't in there. Thanks for the help...

Mouth rot can be flexibactor columnaris, the lips can look bleached out.
If half of his mouth gone its best to destroy the fish, sorry.

Agreed..Sounds like Mouth Rot/Columnaris. Did the fish show any signs of damage before the mouth rotted away, did you notice? I just had a similar problem and it was because my nitite level was very high.. leading to poor water conditions and stress on the fish. Look closely and make sure your other fish don't show any signs of illness. Once the mouth has rotted away there is no way to treat it unfortunately.

Well between myself and my fiance we watch them for a while everyday and didn't see anything...but watching danios can be tricky...we didn't notice anything untill it was too late. I put him in a 15 gallon and he died today i feel really bad for him. There are two danios that i suspect are showing the early signs of it but i might just be paraniod...do you think i should treat the tank for it anyway? I'm also concerned for the clown loaches and BN and needless to say i'm frustrated

Signs of columnaris are bleached out lips, fluffy lips, cottany stands coming from the lips.
